dad 2008

there is no feeling more disconcerting than turning on the tv and seeing matt lauer on a saturday.  basically the only assumption is that the world is ending.  who else would you want to calmly explain your sure to be painful and traumatic fate?  but i guess i'm not the only one who feels like sunday mornings will never be the same without tim russert.  still, matt lauer made my heart beat really quickly.

since i'm not going to be around for father's day, and because with all the coverage about tim russert, they keep talking about what a great dad he was...i thought i would sum up the reasons i love my dad so much...and why things like tim russert make me scared.

reasons why i love my dad 2008:

  • he honestly believes that worry is a wasted emotion and he practices what he preaches...until he doesn't
  • he is brutally sarcastic to everyone, he doesn't discriminate
  • he was the friendliest must gregarious, most remembered person at my wedding, he talked to every single person there and remembered details about each of my friends to share with them
  • he hates that i spend so much money on  shoes but every now and then calls me to tell me he couldn't resist buying me a really cute pair
  • when i was little, before seeing a broadway show we would sit on my bed together and read the play out loud and listen to the music in the car for months ahead of time
  • after doing my taxes forever he now refuses, unless i pay him commission - but he still offers free advice
  • when i need advice about work, money, life in general - he's the first person i call
  • he loves my nani and eddie as much as he loves my grandma and papa
  • he goes to the gym every day
  • he's slowly turning a little bit into my papa - every day for lunch he has a bagel and peanut butter
  • his scones are TDF!
  • he's been known to make a room full of my friends and westport women shriek in delight
  • although he would never admit it, he'll always pay for a trip to LA
  • he's the first one in line at in 'n out
  • he spends every saturday and sunday morning from 10-12 at the beach in westport
  • one weekend when i was home a couple of years ago he gleefully starting mixing his new favorite drink that he was so excited to share with me - rum and pineapple juice (in other words, my entire college career).
alright, i've gotta go.  although i won't be with my dad for father's day i think he would approve of my time at the beach.

and matt lauer just cried, which totally made me cry...oy.
