It's True, Gary STINKS

we have arrived in chicago!  after three full days on the roads with many ups and very few downs, we are showered, relaxing and enjoying the air conditioning.  over the last few days i have discovered the following:

  • i am obsessed with the road atlas!  who knew there was a book that could answer so many questions (who knew i had so many questions that a road atlas could answer?!)
  • books on tape - debatable.  so far, i have been very excited for the selections that we are traveling with, but regardless of time of day, after about five minutes, my eyes are beginning to flutter (not good when behind the wheel)
  • bathroom breaks - if you drink less, they happen less
  • ROADFOOD - this book is making our drive MUCH more adventurous!
  • thunderstorms are scary, especially when driving.  especially when driving through flat country...with every dark cloud i'm convinced that we are about to encounter a tornado and immediately flash to helen hunt attaching herself to some post with a leather belt, and then of course, the cow flying through the house
  • a mix tape that emmaalpaugh made for my birthday in the 7th grade, full of RANCID, NOFX and NATALIE MERCHANT (i was in 7th grade...i was establishing an identity)
  • have i mentioned the road atlas...really i could read that thing all day!
last night after a drive through more than half of northern ohio, ABN and i used ROADFOOD to find an out-of-the-way dive in SANDUSKY to grab fried fish sandwiches for dinner...yum!  then we settled in a state park right on lake eerie for the night - yep, that's right, i'm a camper (was there ever really any doubt?).

as promised, we've been taking short video clips each day.  i think they help paint an accurate picture of our travels...in the moment...without editing...but we can't get them to load and we're both tired now so maybe tomorrow.  and while i plan to post tomorrow, there will be a few days along the way with no access...so stay tuned for a special guest blogger...we'll have to see how that goes :)
