i had my first (and only?) interview today for a position in retail. first on the agenda - find a suitable outfit. when you come to sf with no intentions of looking for a job before your stuff arrives, 2 months after you do, there's nothing in the closet really suitable for an interview. what does one wear to a retail interview anyway? are you supposed to dress in clothes from the store you hope to work at? do you wear heels? do you wear black? these were all questions i asked myself as i swam back and forth this morning at the gym, before heading out on the search.
i went with black. and heels. indigo blue, suede heels. they are fabulous. and were on sale and so only cost $23. so i guess that money, along with the money that i spent on the black dress, will come out of my first paycheck. if i get the job...hmmmm.
i took bart to the interview (i know, i'm so cosmopolitan) and met the others who would be part of the group session. i was clearly the odd one out - i am not asian, i am not a gay man, and i have no experience. but i smiled a lot and all the asian gay men complemented me on my shoes (really, i expected it) so i think it went quite well. apparently customer service is very important to this company and i have tons of experience in that department (i believe while working at the jcc i ran the workshop on how to deal with difficult people) so we'll see what happens. they said i wouldn't hear anything for business days which leads me to the question...what the hell am i supposed to do tomorrow?
