Diet Coke and Tylenol PM - A Perfect End to the Day

the store opened today at 7am because everything was on sale for 40% off and i guess the someone thought that people would want to shop way early in the morning. i don't have an idea of who these people would be as when i showed up at the store at 10am it was completely empty. sales associates were playing capture the hanger - literally. but by 10:15, oh. my. god. it was as if the red sea had parted - the shoppers were pouring in. when the price is right it turns out the shoppers will come. i'm not going to lie - as exhausted as i am, it was totally fun. i would so much rather run around like a nut, including scaling visual displays (in heels) in order to extract the last leather messenger bag from a mannequin who, of course, was wearing a full three piece suit AND a hat requiring me to remove his head and his arm.

clearly i had to shop too because on top of the 40% i get another 30% (coming to a total of 58% off...in case you were wondering). chanukah presents and my dad's shopping list..check. and i got a pair of black pants that actually fit and don't sag in the butt - awesome! it was too busy for me to really try anything on so i figure buy now while it's on sale, return tomorrow - so i filled many bags with many things in many sizes (side note - i often get looks from managers when i refer to clothing as things, or stuff....as in, "i put your stuff in the dressing room" or "are these your things?" apparently the proper words are clothing or items...who knew?). i have the day off so i'll head to the PINEAPPLE NATION in the mall - it doesn't feel like work when its not your home store, and settle up. the last few times i have been shopping in the store i have noticed myself smiling at other customers, the way i do when i am working - acknowledging their presence, nodding my head, even saying hello. it's only afterwards that i realize i am, in fact not working and only shopping. people must think i'm *crazy*.

last night i met up with the RED HEAD, who was in town for only few hours. although we haven't lived in the same place since college, and i continue to feel sad that i missed her wedding - sitting down together for a tuna melt and spinach salad, it really felt like we had never been apart. she's in school to be a rabbi and part of the work that she is doing includes spending her summers changing the lives of countless Jewish kids...clearly, i'm obsessed. i feel very lucky to not only have her as a friend now but to have had her in my life during my time in college. its only now that i realize what a crazy time that was, for me especially, and how essential my friendships were to my everyday survival (that might sound dramatic but it's also totally true).
