today i finally cashed in the gift certificate for a 105 minute massage that ABN gifted me for our anniversary back in september. i wanted to wait for a time when i really needed it. when i would appreciate each and every minute of it. after my day at work this past wednesday, there was no question that now was the time.
the spa was like every spa i have seen on my favorite tv shows but have never visited in person. when i arrived at tru they offered me a glass of champagne (if you insist) and i donned a terry cloth bathrobe and slippers. i sat for a few minutes in a tranquil waiting room (picture multiple babbling fountains) sipping my champagne, flipping through the newest issue of vogue and nibbling on cheese, grapes and fudge. i was in heaven and i hadn't even started my massage!
the massage itself was extremely relaxing, supplemented by the relaxation lotions (i had a choice of that or energetic...which seemed a bit against the point). but as is my natural way, i immediately had to pee. and this was after i had peed twice before the massage began. i held it as long as i could (but 105 minutes is a really long time) until i felt that my tight bladder muscles were taking away from my experience...so i paused my session and ran to the bathroom. as soon as i climbed back on the table i of course had to pee - again. i was able to hold it for the last fifteen minutes but then ran out to the bathroom - only to pee three more times before i left the spa. i'm not normal - i get that.
tonight we are headed to shabbat services. BEX is coming with us, which will not only be more fun but i think it will also help to distract me from how much i miss my boston shabbat community. i'm nervous for sure but opened minded that the night will be different in a good way. i'm going to try not to cry but i'm not making promises.
