Us Red Heads Need to Stick Together

i feel like i'm constantly writing when i'm running out the door - or distracted by, you know, bad tv...i'll work on that.

today is red head day at PN! one of the other red heads from my college career is in the city for a few hours so we're meeting at work (maybe i'll help her with some rabbi attire) and then head out to dinner before i drive her back to the airport. i'm pretty excited. i haven't seen her since i missed her wedding back in may - i still feel unsettled about our decision not to go - it was a fairly crazy time in our lives, you know, not knowing where we would be a couple months down the line - but it makes me sad to have missed such an important moment in her life. i'm not good at not being able to be everywhere and do everything.

this might be my new favorite retail story - i'm often asked if i work on commission and i'm totally comfortable saying - no. ok, so i do get paid .025% of everything that i sell - so, if i make my goal, which i have made exactly twice since starting as a monogram stylist (don't worry, it's not just me...we're in a recession people) means i get paid an extra $1 an hour...that's right $1 an hour, at best...which happened twice...its usually more like 70 cents. on sunday, one of the little girls (what? she's little, and a girl) who rings (translation - works the register) in petites inquired about my commission status. when i replied with the above answer she stared at me blankly.

"wait, do you still get your hourly rate?" she asked, growing agitated, a confused look, spreading slowly across her face.

yes. i get my hourly rate.

"oh, thank god!," she replied, the relief she felt, undeniable. "because otherwise, i was going to tell you, you should really look for a new job!"

glad to know the little girls are looking out for me!
